How to get a Florida insurance license

As a state-certified life and health insurance education provider, our goal is to guide you through the pre-licensing process. In addition to completing your pre-licensing training, we have simplified the steps to attaining your Florida insurance license.
Our Florida Pre-Licensing Education Provider ID: 366943

Step 1: Complete a Florida Pre-Licensing Insurance Course

To qualify for the Florida insurance license exam, you must complete a pre-licensing insurance course that is certified by the Florida Department of Financial Services. Upon passing the pre-licensing course final exam, you will be awarded a Certificate of Course Completion.

Our Florida pre-licensing insurance courses cover the various insurance concepts, definitions, insurance laws and agent regulations listed on the Florida Examination Content Outline. Courses are presented in a clear and concise format and include instructional videos, interactive illustrations, practice exams, and student support.

As of 07/01/2023, the Florida Department of Financial Services has reduced the pre-licensing credit hours for the 2-14 Life and Variable Annuity course from 40 hours to 30 hours.

National Online Insurance School is certified by the Florida Department of Financial Services to offer the following courses:

Important
The Florida Department of Financial Services limits individuals to 5 exam attempts for the same exam type during a 12 month period. Individuals who have reached the 5 exam limit are not permitted to sit for their next exam attempt until the 12 month time window only contains 4 exams. The certificate that you will receive from the testing administrator upon passing the state exam is valid for 12 months.

Step 3: Submit Electronic Fingerprints

You must schedule an appointment to submit electronic fingerprints to complete a background check. The Florida Department of Financial Services requires fingerprints to ensure that an applicant does not have a disqualifying criminal or social services background that would prevent them from being a licensed insurance agent.

Expected cost

Electronic Fingerprints Fee: $50.75 plus local Florida county sales tax

Important
Fingerprints are valid for 1 year for applicants who do not currently hold a valid Florida insurance license. For an applicant presently licensed and seeking an additional license, and the individual has been fingerprinted through the Department within the last 4 years, that applicant will only be required to submit fingerprints again if specifically requested by the Department.
