How to get a Nevada insurance license

At National Online Insurance School, our goal is to guide you through the pre-licensing process. In addition to completing your pre-licensing training, we have simplified the steps to attaining your Nevada insurance license.

Step 1: Prepare with a Nevada Exam Prep Insurance Course

Our Nevada exam prep insurance courses cover the various insurance concepts, definitions, insurance laws and agent regulations listed on the Nevada Examination Content Outline. Step 2: Pass the Nevada Insurance License Exam

Once prepared, you must register with Pearson Vue to take your state insurance exam. Exam reservations can be made online at the Pearson Vue website or over the phone at (800) 274-0488.

Expected cost

Insurance Exam Fee: $37.00 for single-line exam (Life only or Health only)

Insurance Exam Fee: $47.00 for combined exam (Life and Health)

About the state exam

  • You are required to provide two current forms of identification at the testing center. The name on the identification must exactly match the name on the registration. The primary identification must be government-issued and photo-bearing with a signature, such as a driver's license, passport, etc. The secondary identification must contain a valid signature and must not be expired, such as a Debit (ATM) or Credit card. You are not required to present your Certificate of Course Completion.
  • Exam times are typically available in the morning, afternoon and early evening at various locations throughout the state
  • You should arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment to allow time for check-in procedures. If you arrive late you will not be allowed to take your exam and will forfeit your exam fee.
  • Applicants with disabilities should make special arrangements prior to registering for the state exam by contacting the testing administrator at (800) 466-0450
  • Passing score is 70%

Step 3: Complete an Insurance License Application

Once you have passed your state insurance exam, you can apply for your insurance agent license through the Vertafore website. Please keep in mind that you will only be able to electronically apply for your license once you have passed your state insurance exam and the testing vendor has reported your successful completion to the Department of Insurance. Click the button below and follow the steps to complete your application:

  1. Click 'Apply for a license' from the menu on the left
  2. Choose 'Individual' next to 'Submit Resident Application'
  3. Enter your information at the top of the page, choose your state and continue
  4. Select 'Producer' as your license type and continue
  5. Add which licenses you wish to apply for an continue

After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email. Be sure to keep this email, as it contains important information and a link to your Fingerprint Authorization Form, which is required for the next step.

License qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • A resident of the state of Nevada
  • Pass the state insurance exam for the lines of authority for which you are applying
  • Must not have committed any act that is a ground for denial, suspension, or revocation of license.

Step 4: Complete Fingerprinting & Background Check

After submitting your license application through Sircon, you will receive a confirmation email that includes a link to download your Fingerprint Authorization Form. Nevada requires fingerprinting to conduct an FBI background check, which reviews your full criminal history across all states.

You must complete the following steps:

  • Download your Fingerprint Authorization Form from your application confirmation email
  • Complete the Fingerprint Background Waiver
  • Schedule an appointment with an approved Nevada fingerprint vendor
  • Bring both documents to your appointment, where the vendor will capture your fingerprints and complete the authorization form
  • After fingerprinting, upload both completed documents to your Sircon application

Expected cost

Fingerprinting Fee: Typically $60-$75 (varies by vendor)

Important
You must submit your license application before scheduling fingerprinting. The fingerprint vendor will require your Authorization Form and confirmation ID from your application. Fingerprints are not accepted without this documentation.

Step 5: Upload Fingerprinting Documents

After completing your fingerprinting appointment, you must upload the required documents to finalize your background check review.

  • Completed Fingerprint Authorization Form (provided and signed during your appointment)
  • Fingerprint Background Waiver

Upload these documents to your previously completed license application.

Important
Your application will not be reviewed until both fingerprint documents are uploaded. Processing typically takes approximately 2-3 weeks after submission.
