How to get a Louisiana insurance license

As a life and health insurance education provider, our goal is to guide you through the pre-licensing process. In addition to completing your pre-licensing training, we have simplified the steps to attaining your Louisiana insurance license.

Louisiana Insurance Exam Qualifications

In order to qualify to sit for your Life insurance, Accident & Health, or Life, Accident & Health Louisiana insurance exam, the following must occur:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a resident of the state of Louisiana
  • Not committed an act that is a ground for denial, suspension, or revocation of an insurance license

Basic Steps to Obtain a Louisiana Insurance License

  1. Prepare for your state exam with an insurance course from a Louisiana insurance school for Life or Accident & Health, or Life, Accident & Health license.
  2. Submit an insurance license application through Vertafore (formerly Sircon). Once you are on Vertafore’s website, you will choose 'Apply for a license' from the menu on the left. On the next page choose 'Individual' next to Submit Resident Application. Next, complete the application by choosing Louisiana, entering your information and submitting the appropriate application fees.
  3. Schedule your state insurance exam online at PSI. First time users must create an account, which will allow you to schedule your exam location, date and time. If you prefer to schedule your exam by phone, you may call PSI toll-free at 1-800-733-9267.
  4. Fingerprints are required by the Louisiana Department of Insurance to ensure that applicants do not have a disqualifying criminal or social services background that would prevent them from being a licensed insurance agent. You can schedule an appointment to submit electronic fingerprints on the day of your exam at the PSI testing site.
Expected Licensing Costs:
$75 License Application Fee
$30 Exam Fee for Life or Accident & Health
$53 Exam Fee for Life, Accident & Health
$39.25 Electronic Fingerprints
