Pennsylvania Insurance Exam Qualifications

In order to qualify to sit for your Series 16-01 Life insurance, the Series 16-02 Accident & Health, or the Series 16-03 Life, Accident & Health Pennsylvania insurance exam, the following must occur:

  • Successfully complete a 24 hour approved insurance course for that respective license, such as those provided by National Online Insurance School. Provider ID# 84660
  • Be a natural person at least 18 years of age
  • Be a resident of the state of Pennsylvania
  • Be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services
  • Not committed an act that is a ground for denial, suspension, or revocation of an insurance license

Basic Steps to Obtain a Pennsylvania Insurance License

  1. Successfully complete a 24 hour pre-licensing course by an approved Pennsylvania insurance school for Life or Accident & Health, or Life, Accident & Health such as the courses offered by National Online Insurance School.
  2. Registration for your Pennsylvania insurance exam can be completed online at PSI Exam. First time users must create an account, which will allow you to schedule your exam location, date and time. If you prefer to schedule your exam by phone, you may call PSI toll-free at 1-800-733-9267.
  3. Submit electronic fingerprints at the testing center on the day of your state insurance exam. It is recommended that you bring a credit card with you to cover the fingerprint fee.
  4. Complete an insurance license application through Vertafore (formerly Sircon). Once you are on Vertafore’s website, you will choose 'Apply for a license' from the menu on the left. On the next page choose 'Individual' next to Submit Resident Application. Next, complete the application by choosing Pennsylvania, entering your information and submitting the appropriate application fees. You may also complete your application electronically using the kiosk at the testing center. Credit card payment is required for the application fee.
Expected Licensing Costs:
$40 for the 16-01 Life OR 16-02 Accident & Health Exam Fee
$50 for the 16-03 Life, Accident & Health Exam Fee
$55 Application Fee
$40.75 Fingerprint Fee

Helpful Hints to Licensure

  • Your Certificate of Completion that you receive upon passing the course final exam is valid for a period of 12 months.
  • If English is not your first language, you can request additional time for your insurance exam by completing the Special Arrangement Request form in the Licensing Bulletin and fax it to (702) 932-2666. In addition, you must also provide a personal letter requesting the authorization and a signed letter from your instructor at National Online Insurance School or sponsoring company.
