Insurance Exam Qualifications

In order to qualify to sit for your Life insurance, the Accident & Sickness, or the Life, Accident & Sickness Georgia insurance exam, the following must occur:
  • Successfully complete an approved insurance course for that respective license, such as those provide by National Online Insurance School. Provider ID# 153356

  • Sit for the state exam within 12 months from the date of your course completion

  • Complete an online application for your insurance license and submit appropriate fees

  • Be a natural person at least 18 years of age

  • Be a resident of the state of Georgia

  • Be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services

  • Complete a set of electronic fingerprints

  • If licensed in another state within three years, provide a Letter of Clearance
Who is Exempt from the Insurance Exam?

- Waiver of prelicensing course and examination can be granted if applicant was previously licensed for same lines in prior home state; license in that state must be active at the time of moving to Georgia; applicant must attach original clearance letter from prior home state and must apply for licensure within 90 days of the date of the move to Georgia; or

- Waiver of prelicensing course and examination can be granted if applicant holds CLU or FLMI designation. Must attach copy of CLU or FLMI designation with application.

Basic Steps to Obtain an Insurance License

  1. Georgia state law requires the successful completion of a pre-licensing insurance course for Life, or Accident & Sickness, or Life, Accident & Sickness, such as the courses offered by National Online Insurance School

  2. Upon successfully completing the pre-licensing course, you can schedule your state exam online at Pearson Vue. Once there, choose Request an Examination Reservation. First time users must obtain a check-in code and will be asked to provide their name, email address and phone number, as well as a personal password. You will receive a check-in code immediately upon submitting the requested information and you will then be prompted to complete the online Reservation Request Form. You may also reserve a test date over the phone by calling 1-800-274-0488.

    NOTE: By making a test reservation over the phone, you may have better control over test dates and times.

  3. Upon successful completion of the state exam, you should complete an online application for licensure at Sircon. Choose "Individual" next to Submit Resident Application. Next, complete the application by choosing Georgia, entering in your information and submitting the appropriate application fees.

  4. Completion of electronic fingerprints by a LiveScan site are required in conjunction with your application, and can be completed at any time during your pre-licensing process. Fingerprints are automatically sent to the Georgia Department of Insurance and are valid for twelve months from the date of completion.   5. Upon passing the Georgia insurance exam, you will need to either fax or mail your Certificate of Completion, your state exam score sheet (that will be given to you at the end of your state exam), and the GID-276-EN form to the Georgia Department of Insurance in order to process and receive your Georgia insurance license. - Additional licensing information can be obtained from the Pearson Vue Georgia Candidate's Handbook or directly from the Georgia Department of Insurance.

Expected Licensing Costs:

- $90 Exam Fee – This is the cost to register for your Georgia insurance exam

- $15 Application Fee – Paid during online application at Sircon

- $50 License – Paid during online application at Sircon

- $52.90 Electronic Fingerprint Fee

Helpful Hints to Licensure

  • If English is not your first language, you can request an additional hour for your Georgia insurance exam by contacting us, and your instructor can notify Pearson Vue on your behalf. For additional information, you can also contact Pearson Vue directly by phone at 1-800-466-0450. This must be completed prior to scheduling your Georgia insurance exam.

  • If you have any background issues regarding law enforcement records, you will want to obtain the following paperwork from the court clerk’s office in the county it occurred, and mail it to the Georgia Department of Insurance upon completion of your online application.
