Utah Insurance Exam Qualifications

In order to qualify to sit for your Utah Life insurance exam, or Accident & Health insurance exam, or Life, Accident & Health insurance exam, the following must occur:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • If you are not a citizen of the United States, you must provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Be a resident of the state of Utah
  • Must not have committed any act that is a ground for denial of license

Basic Steps to Obtain a Utah Insurance License

  1. Prepare for your state exam with an insurance course from a Utah insurance school for the Life or Accident & Health insurance license, or a course for the Life, Accident & Health insurance license, such as those offered by National Online Insurance School.
  2. Upon passing your pre-licensing course you can register for your state insurance exam online at PSI. First time users must create an account, which will allow you to schedule your exam location, date and time. If you prefer to schedule your exam by phone, you may call PSI toll-free at 1-800-733-9267. The applicant must schedule the examination appointment and pay the PSI examination fee before arriving at the test center. The PSI fingerprinting fee will be paid at the test center.
  3. Upon successful completion of your state exam, you should complete an insurance license application through Vertafore (formerly Sircon). Once you are on Vertafore’s website, you will choose 'Apply for a license' from the menu on the left. On the next page choose 'Individual' next to Submit Resident Application. Next, complete the application by choosing Utah, entering your information and submitting the appropriate application fees.
  • Note: You must submit your application and fee within 90 days of passing your state insurance exam. If your application and fee is submitted after 90 days of passing your state exam, you will be required to retake the exam before the Department will issue your license.
Expected Licensing Costs:
$59 Exam Fee - Life or Accident & Health
$74 Exam Fee - Life, Accident & Health
$36.50 Fingerprints Fee
$75 Application Fee
